Beach Sprints

The event takes place in a beach setting with head-to-head racing taking place in singles (solo), doubles, mixed doubles, coxed quadruple and mixed coxed quadruple sculls. Raced in coastal boats, it begins with a beach start and goes in a sprint out to a buoy and back. The race ends with one rower from each team sprinting to a finish line on the beach.

The course shall comprise (1) a land section – (2) a water section – (3) a land section.

  1. The first section of the course shall be a straight line from a point on the beach (the start/finish line) to the
    water edge, a distance of between approximately 10 and 50 m.
  2. The second section of the course shall comprise, for each lane, a series of three lane buoys in each racing
    lane, the first buoy positioned approximately 85 m from the water edge, the second buoy a further 85 m out and the third buoy a further 80 m out, all in a straight line. The number of lanes shall be 2.
  3. The third section of the course shall be approximately between 10 and 50 m distance on land from the water edge back to the start/finish line.

FAQs

Who can register for the beach sprint event?

Any student from the Australia, New Zealand and Malta who are under the age of 18 but older than 16 on 25/4/2023 are eligible.

What is the deadline for registration?

Registrations will close on December 31st 2022 at 11:59 pm CEST. However, we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

What is the registration fee?

We came up with a package that covers all your transport needs whilst in Malta (inclusive of airport transfers), accommodation, breakfast and lunch on all days, welcome and farewell dinner, cultural visits, and event t-shirt. The cost for single occupancy is 885 EUR while the cost for double occupancy per person is 725 EUR. Please let us know about any dietary requirements via the registration form. 

How do I pay?

A payment link will be sent to you via email once you have completed the registration form.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No. We will provide boats, oars, and safety vest should you request it.

Will I be able to train?

Yes, there are 6 total training sessions in total.

Accommodation, which hotel facilities can I use during my stay?

All hotel facilities will be available during your stay.
